The Association of Road Users of Pakistan was established in October 1998 at Islamabad with the objective of addressing the road related issues throughout the country. With encouragement from the National Highway Authority and sponsorship from the World Bank this non-profit organization was formed with a small group of concerned private citizens determined to bring about a change. It is a daunting task but there is an urgent need to start on this constructive initiative of improving the prevailing conditions on our roads.

ARUP, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) is aiming to achieve its goals by involving all stakeholders in this process. The initial period was taken in forming the administrative structure of the association to ensure that an effective management team was put in place throughout the country. It took time as can be appreciated when voluntary work is involved but we are pleased to report that this objective has been achieved to a large extent in all the four provinces. It is heartening to mention that over a thousand members have since joined in addition to over twenty corporate members including PSO, PIA, Volvo Pakistan, Hinopak, to name a few.

So far over a dozen seminars and workshops have been conducted in all the four provinces together with a workshop at Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir. The object of these workshops [for more information click here] was to create awareness amongst the major groups of stakeholders. The association is working closely with the premier government agencies at the federal and provincial levels. It is processing two major projects, namely the Driver Training Institute at Karachi, [for more information click here] and the computerized Accident Reporting Centre at Lahore in collaboration with the Punjab Traffic Police [for more information click here].

ARUP has to generate its own funds to meet its financial commitments.

Mission Statement : To be recognized as a dynamic organization striving for excellence in achieving the highest standards of road construction and cost effective maintenance, to ensure safety of road users. Providing services to the community by maintaining a comprehensive databank on road network. Creating awareness and commitment amongst all stakeholders in respect of proper usage of roads and minimizing vehicle emission pollution.
