Use of Mobile Phones Banned While Driving and Use of Seat Belts Made Mandotory In Sindh

You would recall that ARUP has been campaigning since 2000 for banning the use of Mobile Telephones while Driving and the mandatory use of seat belts in cars on all roads of Pakistan. We are pleased to advise you that our campaign has brought positive results.

The Sindh Government has amended the West Pakistan Motor Vehicles Rules 1969 providing for ban on use of mobile phones while driving and for mandatory use of seat belts in the front seat of all motor vehicles when in motion.

According to an official notification these stipulations have been made by appropriate additions after Rule-220 and Rule-234 of the Motor Vehicles Rules 1969.

This is indeed good news for all Road Users and ARUP hopes that all other Provincial Governments in Pakistan will follow the example set by Government of Sindh.
