(23 December 2004)

Members will be pleased to know that your organisation (ARUP) has been given the Institute of Road Traffic Education (India) and Prince Michael International Road Safety Award (UK) for the year 2004.

The IRTE Road Safety Awards were instituted in the year 2000, to acknowledge extraordinary contributions by individuals/organisations, towards development of a positive Road Culture in Traffic Management and Road Safety in India.

The Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards (U.K.) recognise the achievements and innovations for improvement in Road Safety. Instituted in 1987, the awards have given public recognition to those who have made outstanding achievements and innovations worldwide.

Since 2002, the IRTE and PMIRSA collaboration is a step towards Global Encouragement, in building a positive road culture through safety attitudes and practices and towards reduction of road accidents.

Reproduced below is an extract of IRTE & PMIRS Awards 2004 Secretariat letter dated 16-12-2004:-

It gives us immense pleasure to inform you that the panel of judges have selected Association of Road Users of Pakistan for the Institute of Road Traffic Education & Prince Michael International Road Safety Award 2004 for your extraordinary contribution towards Global road safety.

A large number of National & International nominations were received for the awards this year. Judging the award was a stimulating experience because of varied expertise of the panel of judges as well as the intrinsic interest and merit of the nominees. The work of selection was very difficult as most nominees have done exceptionally well in their respective fields.

The award appreciates your commitment, dedication and work done to build a positive road user culture through safety attitudes and practices towards reduction of road accidents and injuries in Pakistan.
