(i) Secretary General consults leading ARUP Corporate Members
to determine their interest in CDTI.
(ii) 13th EB meeting at Lahore on 10-03-2002.
April:
ARUP Islamabad submits ARUP’s proposal to Traffic Police
Islamabad, for improving safety of Road Users (especially pedestrians
and cyclists) in the federal capital.
May:
Translation and editorial work for the Urdu edition of “ARSB”
commences and ARUP approaches Corporate Members for funding
sponsorship for publishing and printing of 5,000 copies of “ARSB”
Urdu edition.
June:
ARUP’s proposal for establishing Commercial Drivers Training
Institute (“CDTI”) at ex-KTC facility at Mangopir
Road, S.I.T.E, Karachi, accepted by Department of Transport
GoS. ARUP submits its draft of ARUP/GoS Lease Agreement for
“CDTI” to Secretary Transport, GoS.
July:
(i) Mr. Asif J. Khawaja, ARUP Islamabad EB member participated
in PTV program on “Traffic Pollution”
at PTV Islamabad studio.
(ii)
14th EB meeting at Karachi on 14-07-2002.
August:
(i) SG attends meeting at Karachi convened by Secretary Communications
and Works, GoS on 10-08-2002, to discuss
introduction of the proposed Road Users Tax.
(ii) ARUP makes a formal presentation to Chairman NHA on 07-08-2002,
at Islamabad regarding inaugural Highway
Safety Seminar to be held at Islamabad.
September:
Discussions continue with DOT GoS and CDGK regarding the establishment
of ARUP’s CDTI at Karachi.
October:
Editorial work of “ARSB-U” completed and printing
commenced.
November:
(i) Urdu edition of ARUP’s Road Safety Booklet (ARSB-U)
launched and countrywide distribution
commenced.
(ii) SG meets at Karachi with officials of Asian Development
Bank (Manila and Islamabad) on
27-11-2002 to discuss overall support of ADB for ARUP projects.
ADB confirms appointment of ARUP
to act as the Secretariat of the Citizens’ Advisory Group
for ADB’s RSDP in the province
of Sindh.
December:
(i) SG and JS Punjab meet the DIG NH and Motorway Police at
his office in Tokhar Niaz Baig (Lahore)
on 14-12-2002 and brief him about ARUP activities. 20 Copies
of ARSB-U presented to DIG.
(ii)
15th EB meeting at Lahore on 15-12-2002.
(iii)
ARUP submits suggestion to ASP Traffic Police Islamabad regarding
awareness of Traffic Warden System.
Suggestions were accepted by Islamabad Traffic Police Department.
