Association of Road Users of Pakistan (ARUP) has been established since October 1998 on a countrywide level. Since then "ARUP" through its offices available in 10 cities (Karachi Larkana Multan Faisalabad Lahore Islamabad Peshawar Charsada Quetta and Muzzafarabad) and a devoted work force of 800 volunteers and members is working towards "Safer Highways Prosperous Nation".

The Executive Board of ARUP comprising of 18 members from allover Pakistan has met in various cities as follows:

  • Multan 02 Feb., 2000
  • Lahore 24 March 2000

In Islamabad Seven camps against Pressure Horns & Visible Smoke emitting vehicles with the help of Environment Squad of Traffic Police, Pak EPA, Secy. ITA, City Administration, PBSA, PEEMAC and Islamabad Police have been conducted. Work on restarting this activity from July 2000 has been initiated.

We at ARUP have now started our work in Baluchistan and Kashmir. Seminar at Muzzafarabad on "Safer Highways Prosperous Nation" is being arranged in June.

ARUP Sindh Region during the past quarter has participated in the following:-

On Saturday 11th March a new "Metro Bus Service", at Karachi, serving Route 9A & 9B was launched. Mr. Deewan Mohammad Yousuf Farooque, Minister for Industries, Mineral Development and Labour & Transport, Government of Sindh was the Chief Guest.

The Secretary General ARUP was invited to the "DAIHATSU CUORE" Inauguration ceremony on 25th March 2000, at the Indus Motor Company, Port Qasim Industrial Razzak Dawood, Minister of Industries and Production was the Chief Guest.

The Secretary General, ARUP was invited by Mr. I. Shingu, President Daihatsu Motor Company Ltd, to attend "Daihatsu Cuore Preview Dinner" at the Avari Towers, Karachi on the 25th March 2000.

ARUP has received comments/suggestion from Caltex Oil (Pakistan) Limited, Pakistan State Oil and the Behbud Association, Karachi regarding the important issue of hazards/traffic congestion/inconvenience to residents caused by parked "road oil tankers" in Shireen Jinnah Colony and POL road tankers transiting through Kemari, Clifton and Defence Housing Authority roads. The proposed relocation of POL storage tanks from Kemari is a related issue. The Secretary General has conveyed ARUP point of view regarding this Important issue, to the General Manager, Karachi Port Trust with a copy to the Commissioner Karachi and the Secretary Transport, GOS, Karachi. The Secretary General is actively pursuing this matter with the concerned authorities. -- ~

WORKS IN HAND

Road Safety Seminar for Pakistan Motorways Police (PMP) on 31 May 2000.
Seminars for introducing ARUP to the region of Azad Kashmir during June 2000.
Monitoring camps on countrywide level for NHA to check vehicles plying on various segments of National Highways.
First model "Traffic Safety Education Centre" of Pakistan in Islamabad for PMP is being discussed with experts of the fields.
A series of workshops at all provincial capitals for increasing stakeholders awareness on all road matters will be organized by ARUP.
Discussions are in progress to establish a model Accident Reporting Centre in Police lines Lahore and first "Accident Victim Tracking & Treatment Network" at MIHS Islamabad. This will later be enhanced to a countrywide network with setting up of proper "Trauma Centers",
